In 1975, Rino and Lina Tessuti (recent immigrants from Italy), opened
an Italian Restaurant on Commercial Drive in Vancouver . They called it the
IL Corsaro , which means "The Pirate', after a character Rino played on Italian T.V. They brought with them to Vancouver a special Genovese pasta sauce called "Pesto' (a blend of basil, garlic and olive oil), and were one of the first restaurants in Vancouver to serve it. Not long after their arrival they brought partners into the business, Mario and Marie Pagan.

 The
IL Corsaro flourished, becoming one of the best known Italian restaurants on Commercial Drive , with its rose for every lady. In 1982, Rino and Lina retired, leaving as sole owners, Marie and Mario. In 1994 Mario and Marie moved to Maple Ridge. The commute to Vancouver proved too much, so they sold the restaurant and opened Mario's Pasta Bar in Maple Ridge in 1997. Mario and Marie moved to Chilliwack . Not yet ready to retire, they have opened Mario's Pasta Bar here in Chilliwack in 2006.

The Tradition Continues!
